Velvia preset for Lightroom & Sony Alpha
Velvia is the landscape slide film that made saturation a style. Greens go electric, blues deepen dramatically, contrast is steep and blacks crush early. It rewards clean, colourful scenes and punishes messy ones — there is no subtlety to hide behind.
How to shoot and edit it
- Use it on landscape, foliage and sky. It will wreck most skin tones.
- Watch the blue channel at altitude or near water — Velvia clips saturated blues fast.
- Shoot into side light. Frontal light plus this much contrast flattens the scene.

Still is Sony's most saturated stills matrix — correct for Velvia 50's legendary punch. Crushed blacks (BL -4, narrow black gamma -3) + manual hard knee at 90% matches Velvia's high-contrast tone curve and hard highlight rolloff (LUT Contrast +30, Blacks -30). G+5 is the largest depth boost — Velvia's electric green signature; M+2 handles the magenta sky shift per-channel rather than rotating the whole palette.

Astia is Fujifilm's portrait profile: low contrast, gentle highlight roll-off and a slight overall warmth that keeps skin looking alive rather than baked. Colour is present but restrained. It is the profile to reach for when the subject matters more than the scene.
The last hour before sunset, amplified: amber highlights, glowing skin, soft lifted blacks and just enough haze to feel like the light is physically in the frame. Warm without tipping into orange, soft without going flat.
